Sunderland misses out on 2018 summer concert
Sunderland’s Stadium of Light has missed out on hosting a concert this summer, it has been revealed.
The club say it was approached with the possibility of hosting the Rolling Stones concert this summer but no confirmed deal was laid out.
The Rolling Stones are an English rock band who rose to fame during the 60s and 70s with hits such as ‘Brown Sugar’ and ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’.
Today a spokesperson from Sunderland A.F.C revealed the club had been provisionally asked to host the band.
“AFC was approached about the possibility of holding the concert however, the date proposed would not have allowed enough time to complete pitch renovations ahead of the 2018-19 season.
“Both parties explored earlier dates but were unfortunately unable to find a solution.” – SAFC SPOKESPERSON
The Stadium of Light has previously hosted big names such as Pink, Take That and Rihanna.
However the last concert to take place at the stadium was Beyoncé back in 2016 when she brought her Formation Tour to Sunderland.
It was reported last year that there were no music concerts on the calendar in the foreseeable future – but that the club hadn’t ruled out staging gigs again further down the line.
