Community awards spread awareness for Sunderland 2021 Culture of Culture BID

Written by on 1st November 2017

A fantastic line-up of Wearside and East Durham businesses have  won this year’s Portfolio Awards.

Judges met twice at Port of Call in Sunderland and examined every entry before deciding who should progress to the next stage. After hours of deliberation, they agreed on the finalists and agreed it had been a tough task to whittle down such a high standard of entries.

The grand final was at the Stadium of Light, on Thursday, October 26.

‘Make it Sunderland’ was the awards sponsor, which supported the Business of the Year Award and Lifetime Achievement award.

Other sponsors included Northumbrian Water, Sunderland BID, The Bridges, Sunderland College, Wessington Dental, Station Taxis and Sunderland 2021 – the team behind Sunderland’s City of Culture Bid.

We spoke to Dan Makaveli, Managing Director at Media Savvy, a creative and digital training agency based in Sunderland about how local businesses in Sunderland impact the local community and Sunderland City of Culture BID 2021.

Social enterprise agency Media Savvy CIC was crowned as the winner of the ‘Social Enterprise Award’ at this year’s Portfolio Awards 2017 and picked up the Highly Commended Award for ‘Best Training Provider’.
