The Sunderland 2021 bid team has submitted the first stage of its City of Culture Bid, and the decision to whittle down the final eleven bidding towns and cities is now down to the judges.

The 11 bidding location are expected to be cut down to a shortlist of four, and that decision is now in the hands of judges representing the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

It’s estimated that the Sunderland bid could deliver a multi-million-pound boost for the whole of the North East.

Sunderland’s bid will face stiff competition in a battle for the coveted title.

Winning City of Culture status could do wonders for Sunderland’s economy, delivering a multi-million-pound boost for the successful city.

The city has already seen a £1billion boost in investment since being announced as the winner of the title in 2013.
