“Nothing ever happens in the North East” is a phrase you’ll hear often living in Sunderland and the surrounding areas. It is a phrase however that has never been more wrong.

Next month starts a streak of weekends throughout the next few months full of festivals and the like. The summer of festivities kicks off with Newcastle’s inner-city, multi-venue Hit The North Festival.

Headlined by Lethal Bizzle, Slaves and Nothing But Thieves, Hit The North brags a big billing of the music industries biggest names. Packed with indie and rock bands its a perfect event for listeners of Alt-Play and The Takedown.

What’s particularly pleasing for a station that proudly represents our local talent as much as we can is the amount of local names at Hit The North.

Without even counting the Meet The North pre-party, there’s a number of local bands that thoroughly deserve their place amongst the big hitters. Lisbon, Vito and A Festival, A Parade are amongst our top tips for Hit The North.
