Posted on 02 June 2010 by

At least five people have been killed after a taxi driver went on the rampage with a shotgun in Cumbria and then killed himself. Divorced father-of-two Derrick Bird is suspected to have murdered a colleague in Whitehaven before driving through the Lake District firing, at random, other victims. At least 25 people have been injured in the attacks. Police found a body 20 miles away in woods near the village of Boot – believed to be that of Mr Bird. Police helpline number on 0800 0960095.

Louise Johnstone is the landlady at the Bower House Inn in Eskdale. She was told to keep everyone inside her pub. Jamie Reed is the local MP for Copeland – he’s incredibly shocked at what’s happened. The Prime Minister says at least five people have died in the shootings in Cumbria. David Cameron told MPs the figure as he took his first Commons question time as PM. Michelle May is in Whitehaven – near to where the shootings started this morning. She says many people are traumatised by what they’ve seen.
