When you get a parking ticket – do you pay up or dispute the fine?

Parking campaigner thinks many motorists are being given unlawful tickets in controlled parking zones by their local councils.

Neil Herron from Sunderland has discovered a technicality about where they place their lines and signs. However, today he will go to the High Court to challenge parking tickets issued by his local council which he claims were unlawful.

Mr Herron began his parking campaign in 2005 after he challenged the local council’s parking rules on collecting Penalty Charge Notices in frustration at the parking rules.

He thinks he could succeed where others have tried and failed. And if he wins the case, it means thousands of drivers could be paid back millions in parking fines if the law is changed.
