Sunderland’s commitment to promoting social inclusion and diversity saw civic support for International Day Against Homophobia today. People gathered outside The gateway at city campus on Chester Road for photos and to speak with the press before making their way to the Sunderland Civic Centre to raise a rainbow flag as part of activities being held around the world to mark the occasion on and around the day. IDAHO Day was celebrated by the City Council and Sunderland University. The university is a Stonewall Diversity Champion, committed to improving the workplace for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual staff. In 2008 they improved their score on Stonewalls workplace Equality Index, rising by 6% in the benckmarking process. For 107 Spark FM, Ethan O’Leary made live reports from location.
