This Saturdays Britain’s Got Talent programme featured the first time they have ever had auditions from Newcastle and there was little to shout about.
One of the most popular acts, especially amongst the younger female audience, was Connected, a boy band with the average age of 14. The bands name came about through their family connections, with a couple of brothers and cousins in the band. They wowed judges Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan with their first song, a version of the Backstreet Boys classic ‘I Want it That Way’. However Mr Simon Cowell was not impressed until they sang a version of Marvin Gaye’s ’Aint No Mountain High’.
Other acts included a magician and flute playing combination called ‘Flute Magic’ and best friends ‘Different Dreams’ who went through a difficult audition. After the two of them sang comments were made that one was simply not good enough, however the second half of the act had the potential. The two friends Ruth, 16 and Chantelle, 18 sang a version of the Chess musical hit ‘I Know Him so Well’. The pair explained that the two practiced at Chantelle’s house, because her mum was death and was not bothered by the pair. Chantelle was asked to sing solo by the judges, a dramatic moment for the best friends, however she pressed on, sang solo…and still got a big NO from the judges.
Overall the TV show from Newcastle was hugely entertaining, however as it the case quite often with Britain’s Got Talent, it wont be remembered for talented acts, just the embarrassing ones.
