Northumbria Police is holding community events in supermarkets, shopping centres and shops across Sunderland.
Over the next ten weeks, as part of the forcewide “It’s good to know” campaign, Neighbourhood Policing Teams will be at various venues giving the community the opportunity to get to know their local neighbourhood policing team.
The events are aimed at letting the public know who their local officers are as well as answer any concerns they have surrounding crime and disorder.
One topic which often comes up as being the most concern to neighbourhoods is anti-social behaviour and youth disorder and officers will use the events to let the people know what they’ve been doing in their area to tackle the issue.
Neighbourhood Inspector Lisa Musgrove, said: “We’re committed to finding out about the things that are of most concern to the community and then addressing them, and this is another way we can find out what those concerns are.
“It will give us an opportunity to engage with the community informally and tell them what we’re doing to tackle the issues that concern them the most.
“The events are being held in areas where there’s a lot of people going about their daily business and I’d urge people to take a few minutes to chat to their local officers.
“They are there to talk to you about what’s going on in your area, who they are and how they are available and to offer crime prevention advice to ensure people reduce their risk of becoming a victim of crime.”
