The Green Party: An Alternative Vote?

At the end of last year Tuesday’s Talk featured the opinion on a range of issues from the three main parties, Labour, Conservative and the Liberal Democrats. Mainly this was on the issue of whether University tuition fees should have been increased. But on Saturday producer Sam Willey thought it was time for a different opinion.

Tuesday’s Talk went to Revolution in Sunderland where they met with representatives from the Green Party, who had just finished hosting their first meeting on 2011. The Green party only achieved 285,000 votes at the last election, but made history when Caroline Lucas became the first Green member of Parliament for Brighton.

Many are critical saying a vote for the Greens is a vote wasted, a comment which David Campbell representing the Greens is in high opposition to. We have to remeber that in 1957 the Liberal Democrats only had five MP’s and now look where we are today.

So if you’re unsure who to vote for in the next election maybe the Green Party is a new direction to turn, for a true new start to politics. But is a new start truly possible? Or are all political parties, no matter how small all the same, full of promises prior to the election, which they have no intention of keeping once in power?
