Member of Parliament for Easington Graham Morris has spoken to Spark FM, regarding what should be done in response to recent shootings in Durham.
It happened just before midnight on New Year’s Day at an address on Greenside Avenue at Horden in Peterlee.
Taxi driver Michael Atherton is believed to have shot dead his partner, her sister and niece before taking his own life.
The tragedy has caused many to assess our gun control laws and if anything needs to change in order to help prevent further potential incidents.
Just on Boxing Day a 20 year-old Indian student was shot dead at close range in Manchester, in an unprovoked attack, and this most recent set of killings in Horden will only further aggravate calls for change.
Durham Police have been keen to reassure the public saying they are not currently looking for anyone else in connection to the incident.
Mr. Morris has been in Horden, an area which is part of his Easington constituency to hear the concerns of local people, who are still devastated by what has happened.
Now questions remain about whether Mr. Atherton should have still been in possession of fire arms, despite concerns over his mental condition which were raised following an incident in 2008. For the time being all that can be done is wait for an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission to take its course.
