Tributes and Road Closures on Remembrance Sunday
Remembrance Sunday will be marked across Sunderland with a series of services and parades to honour those killed in conflict.
The main City Centre parade and service will see hundreds of service personnel and veterans joining the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear and the Mayor of Sunderland.
The parade starts at 10.35am on Sunday 12 November from the Civic Centre. It will be led by the The Royal Signals (Northern) Band and the Bearpark and Esh Colliery Band.
Visitors are asked to be in place at the war memorial by 10.15am, as the parade will step off at 10.35am. Remember to dress for cold weather too.
A limited amount of seating, accessible from Mowbray Park, is available from 9am. Access to the disabled platform is also available from the same time.
Parking in the Civic Centre car will be available free of charge. Road closures are in place from 9.30am – with access to Civic Car Park from Park Lane only after this point.
A number of road closures are in place around the city centre:
- From 9am – 2pm Burdon Road (between Park Road and Borough Road) and Park Road (between Burdon Road and Toward Road) will be closed.
- From 11am – 12pm Borough Road (between Waterloo Place and Frederick Street East) and Toward Road (between Borough Road and Park Road)
While there is also a number of other services and parades taking place in South Hylton, Castletown, Ryhope and Silksworth.
