Sunderland Illuminations Set to Shine Bright Again
Sunderland Illuminations are back for 2017 with the lights brightening up Roker from Thursday (October 5th).
The Festival of Light in Roker Park features established favourites such Alice in Wonderland, Sunderland Tap, Doctor Who, Aliens and Fairy Dell alongside new attractions.
Some of the new instillation for 2017 include an interactive 3D lighting display ‘Heart Beat’ and ‘Disney Lights’ with characters from international film musical hit Frozen’ and other favourites reflecting this year’s partnership with Sunderland’s Empire Theatre.
The annual event opens at 5pm this Thursday, and runs until the end of Sunday November 5th when a spectacular seafront fireworks finale will bring things to a close at 6pm.
Visitors will be charged to enter Roker Park again this year, after the £1 fee was introduced last year to help off-set the cost of running the event, according to the council.
Buying an online £1 ticket here for this year’s display in the park entitles the individual ticket holder to a £1 discount on tickets for the Pantomime ‘Jack and the Beanstalk‘ being staged at Sunderland’s Empire Theatre throughout December.
Free attractions along the seafront and on Cliffe Park include the giant big wheel, fairground, and food stalls with the ‘Roker Rattler’ landtrain in operation throughout, providing a transport of delight between the various landmark sites.
