Paula Radcliffe looks ahead to Sunderland 10K and Half Marathon

Over 4,000 runners will take to the streets of Sunderland in the 2017 Run Sunderland Festival this Sunday.
The event is now in its seventh year, and this year is set to attract a record level of entries, including local girl and Team GB athlete Aly Dixon, who recently led the British runners home at the London Marathon.
While, Marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe will be the official race starter this weekend and will be running this Sunday.
Club runners from the North East athletics scene and a number of ‘fun runners’ will be taking part this weekend in both the half marathon and 10K.
The races will also be started by Colin Burgin-Plews, better known as charity fundraiser ‘Big Pink Dress’, but will be swapping his usual Big Pink Dress for a red-white Sunderland strip dress.
The route starts at Keel Square and those taking part will do a loop around the City Centre – before heading down to the Wearmouth Bridge and along the river side past the University and College Campuses and the National Glass Centre up to Sunderland Marina.
The runners will travel along the Seafront of Roker before completing a lap around Roker Park and heading down Dame Dorothy Street then back over the Bridge to finish up at Keel Square.
Timings for the event are as follows:
- 9:00am – Active Sunderland Big 3K Run (junior event)
- 10:00am – Siglion Sunderland City 10K
- 10:25am – Siglion Sunderland City Half Marathon (featuring Paula Radcliffe and Aly Dixon)
